If starting seeds early indoors, plant 4 to 6 weeks before your last expected frost date for an earlier harvest. When moving from indoors to the full sun, acclimate the seedlings for about one week by slowly introducing more sunlight. Plant at least 8 in apart, keeping rows 12 – 18in apart, when transplanting or direct sowing in the beds. When planting Seeds should be covered with ¼ to ½ inch of soil and watered in thoroughly. Keep moist until germination. Lettuce will do best in loose well-draining soil, and a fertile well tilled bed can be the difference between success. You should be able to sow additional lettuce seeds every two weeks for a continuous harvest throughout the growing season.
