Scientific Name: Acmella oleracea
Though its native region is truly unknown, the toothache plant probably originated from related acmella species in Brazil. It has several useful medicinal purposes such as numbing of oral pain, increase in salivation, and an increase in testosterone. Due to it’s highly polar nature, the bioactive constituents of this plant may only be available if eaten with food. The fresh leaves and flower buds may be chewed, steamed and eaten as salad greens. This handy plant grows well as an annual in temperate zones and makes a striking addition to your herbal garden.
